Hormone Replacement by Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy for Charleston Area Residents
What is Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy?
Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy or BHRT uses chemically identical hormones found in your body to supplement what your body is producing at the time. A compounding pharmacy will work with your doctor to specially formulate a mix of hormones to supplement your body’s naturally occurring hormones.
What does Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy treat?
BHRT treats many symptoms for menopause, postmenopause, and perimenopause. This includes hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness. Women can also experience insomnia, moodiness, low energy, and reduced sexual drive.
How does my Doctor and Pharmacy Work Together?
Your local Charleston area Doctor will monitor hormone levels through saliva or blood tests. As your levels change your doctor will adjust the prescribed level of hormones with each new prescription. Your pharmacist will adjust your custom compounded prescription each time your doctor recommends a change. Our pharmacists are trained in hormone replacement therapy and will be able to work with you and your doctor on recommended dose changes and symptom management. Since we are a local Charleston pharmacy, we will be able to make adjustments the same day your doctor recommends a change or you simply need a refill.
What kind of medication is compounded for Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement therapy?
Compounded Bioidentical hormones primarily include Estrogens (Estradiol and Estriol) and Progesterone. These FDA approved drugs replace imbalances caused during menopause and helps alleviate many of its symptoms. The final medication comes in many forms. The most popular and easiest to use is a cream administered directly to the skin. It can also be made into a lozenge or a suppository.
